Painted at the same time as a Marilyn Monroe paintings, this Elvis Presley was painted on the canvas in exactly the same style. In fact, I had each painting on it’s own easel and was working quickly, with large scale brushes and changing from one canvas to another and back again. This process was really an experiment to see how things turned out.
I have only painted Elvis Presley twice. I remember watching Elvis movies a s a child and being interested simply because all the adults around me told me how incredibly talented this man was.
He has an incredible face to paint on canvas. This, and the Marilyn painting created at the same time both have a slightly ghostly and somewhat melancholy feel to them. There are elements of this painting which I still really like. It is the opposite in construction and the paint application method to the way that I am currently working but looking at it again makes me want to splash paint around the studio and work with large brushes again.
The original artwork was 3 x 2 feet on deep edge box canvas.
