Early in 2009, I had created a painting called the “Page Of Challices”. It was part of a series of paintings produced for the Braewell Galleries solo show in April that year. Much of the work was related to Klimt, Tarot artwork and all things esoteric.
Some months after the exhibition, I had wanted to recreate the pose of the model but minus the Challice in the painting. I was very pleased with the original, but I wanted this subsequent paintign to be purely figurative kilt art.
Much of the earlier kilt paintings which I created were fun and had an element of mild humour. I wanted this painting to be altogether more serious and this was reflected not just in the pose of the “kiltie” but in the tonal values and overall feel of the artwork. This painting was also in oil, the other kilt paintings have mainly been in acrylic. Also, thi swas a much smaller scale artwork at only 1 foot high.
The painting is shown below, framed. Framing some paintings really does create a difference to the feel of the artwork. I find that box style canvas, especially for modern paintings and larger landscapes can be unnesessary. The Thinker, really did come together sitting in this substantial black frame.
