“Grace Jones” Original Oil Painting

I loved painting this oil on canvas of Grace Jones so much that I could paint it quite happily all over again.

Grace Jones, is, I believe quite a misunderstood celebrity. Her genuine talent is eclipsed by high profile appearances such as on the Russell Harty Show, when she famously slapped the host for turning his back on her.

Grace has an outstanding voice and contrary to what peopel think about the masculine persona created by Jean-Paule Goude in the early 80′s, she is very much “all woman”! Seeing Grace Jones live is an event. One of the best gigs of my life was at the Glasgow Barrowlands when Grace performed with Sly and Robbie in a marathon set. When i say marathon, Grace did not turn up until after 11 when she was supposed to be on stage at 9pm. Apparently, they sent a taxi to her hotel and in true Diva style, Grace refused to travel to the gig until they sent a limo.

This painting was quite an early venture into oil painting and I wanted it to have a slick, designed appearance. With an ultra simple palette and the red lips adding the focal shock, if I am honest, deep in my heart, this is the style of artwork I should be developing as my own.
