Romantic artwork is something I have perhaps avoided at times as I don’t like anything overly ‘sugary”. Whenever I paint anything with deep emotion, i really want it to be as genuine as I can make it.
The Commitment was apainting bourne out of a session with two models with whom I was working on poses for individual canvases. I took the opportunity to bring them both together.
Initially, the idea was to have a ring on the woman’s finger, signifying the commitment between the two people however as the painting progressed, I decided to take the “sparkling” element and almost explode it around the canvas, which, at the time of painting was very much in keeping with other artworks I was creating, influenced by Klimt.
The metalic elements were created with inks and with the addition of several deeply textured areas, this was a painting with quite a lot going on.
I would like to investigate romantic artwork and figures of couple further as there is much scope for investigating a whole breadth of ideas.
