As abstract art goes, or semi-abstract in this case, “Egg & Spoon Race” has quite an interesting story behind it which admitedly, some people may find slightly distasteful.
Around 2003, I was at a meeting where a gentleman explained that he donated his semen to a friend who was having difficulty conceiving. This was not done under medical supervision. In fact, a spoon was used.
The result was a healthy boy, who at that time was five years old. This had quite an affect on my thinking at the time and the result was the original artwork shown above.
When I was showing this painting to people, I was unsure about wether to explain why there was a real spoon fixed to the canvas, or indeed tell the full story behind the art. As I tend to be the direct, honest type and the painting was purchased by a lady who told me that it hangs above the headboard of her bed.
