“Emerge” was first painted in 2010 but was not shown much and spent most of the next year in my studio. During this time, I worked over the top of the original painting in oil, transforming it into an altogether new “nude girl artwork“.
Some paintings are more challenging than others and I am particularly fond of this one. It features areas of subtle tone change, areas of bold brushwork and textured underpainting. THe painting was influenced again by the model who was speaking with me whilst i was working with her. It is all about inner strength and, in particular, the strength and resiliance of women and their apparent ability to re-emerge after challenging life events perhaps in a different way from men.
Painting figurative artwork, especially nude girl artwork is very challenging for me and I believe that this is one of my stronger figurative paintings.
