This was a really free-spirited, freehand gamble of a painting. Using big brushes and trying to have the guts not to really care how the artwork turned out was the spirit in which I started painting the blank canvas.
A much lighter palette was used than I would normally. A concern was the smile and the movement in this painting. A smile, especially a big smile can sometimes come across as unnatural but on a legendary figure like Marilyn Monroe it seems to sit naturally. In fact with Marilyn it seems, bigger is definitely better.
