This original oil painting is as much about the sky as it is about the bottom half of the painting, the grassland area.
Many of my landscape paintings are based on visiting a real place which I want to paint, but some are from imagination, more specifically, based on memories. I have spoken elsewhere in the art blog and on other paintings, that I spent much of my childhood in woodland and field areas. These memories stay in the mind for life and I find it quite easy to revisit and create artwork based on these pictures in my minds eye.
It’s a long time since I was in grass which was taller than I am but this painting is based on the unusual perspective and changing scale of being immersed in a huge field of long grass and reeded areas, which can look just as spectacular on a day when the sun is not shining.
