So, my WASPS Artist’s Studio is another step nearer to completion after giving it a bit of a tidy.
If you have read the previous blog entry you will know that I have been giving the place a bit of a spruce up. The studio had never seen a coat of paint since the studios were opened many years ago and it was really starting to show.
In addition to being a more comfortable place to work and create paintings, I am pleased that I will have the studio ready in time for the annual WASPS Open Studio’s event.
This is possibly one of my favourite events of the year. Around 900 art lovers come through the doors at the WASPS Studios in Hanson Street, Glasgow for Open Studios and there are usually around 40 artist’s who open their doors for the weekend.
It’s a great chance to see artist’s in their working environment, have a chat and see artwork, completed and in progress. There is also the opportunity to purchase artwork , sometimes at better than gallery price, just depending on the piece.
In addition to painters, there are many glass and ceramic artist who will alos be taking part.
I have got to know many people who visit year after year and I look forward to seeing visitors old and new. One of the best aspects of the Open Studio’s weekend is getting feedback on artwork. I really get a lot from this. When an artist delivers a painting to an art gallery, feddback is given from the gallery owner and sometimes from customers of the gallery, especially if there is an opening night. However, there is not always this opportunity and this is why the informal setting of Open Stusio’s is even more invaluable. People really tend to let you know what they think!
This years WASPS Open Studios weekend is on the 1st and 2nd of October – more information nearer the time.
