A few years following the release of the Marilyn In Art book, I was approached by Mem Mehmet who was planning a celebratory book in pictorial form for Princess Diana. I knew of Mem because of his fantastic book, Madonna In Art.
Three paintings were created especially for Diana In Art. Each was very different. Two in oil and one acrylic painting.
I admired Princess Diana. I believe that she did manipulate the press to her advantage but I also believe that she had poor support and a sad life. I understand the way the shock of her death created an unpresidented reaction amongst people. As to wether or not she was murdered, I think we may never know the truth, a bit like the Jack The Ripper situation.
I think Diana’s growth from a quiet girl who seemed to lack personality to the beautiful, outspoken thorn in the side of The Royal family is fascinating and I am proud to have my artwork included in Mem’s book.
Regrets are something I tend not to have and if I do, I tend to bury them quickly. The exception is the fact that I was not painting when Mem Mehmet’s book, Madonna In Art was released. I would have loved to have been included in the book. I am fascinated my Madonna. Changing from loathing her music when she first appeared on the scene to adoring her on the release of Ray Of Light, my fascination for Madonna, both in her music and in painting her continues. Mem mehmet soothed the pain of missing this opportunity a few years ago by purchasing one of my Madonna paintings for his own art collection which for me, was very flattering.
