Female art as a subject has continually developed for me since I began to paint full time. Initial concerns about the delicacy of brushwork and a more sensitive approach gave way as I investigated using different textures, linework and through the use of colour.
Choice of medium has also affected the resulting canvas as I have changed from oil pianting to acrylic and back to paintings in oil. Lately, there has been experimentation with the painting surface and this has been an interesting experience, leading to another development in the direction of the painting style of my female art.
Female drawing and painting has taken various forms over the years as I have experimented with various mediums and the process of application. This new version of a previous oil painting is in charcoal and graphite on paper and forms part of a new series of original art currently being produced.
Pencil Art – Inner Space Pencil art is a bit of a departure for me. Mostly my days...
Portrait paintings in a small scale in acrylic, both male and female "heads", these canvases were both interesting and challenging to paint. The textural element added to the overall appearance of this artwork which comprisers of no less than nine individual portraits.
"Emerge" was first painted in 2010 but was not shown much and spent most of th next year in my studio. During this time, I worked over the top of the original painting in oil, transforming it into an altogether new artwork.
I have been working on this oil painting and really trying to play around with the light and the feeling of trying to protect oneself. The meaning behind this painting is how we are attracted to that which may not be good for us and the crossed arms symbolise the guarding of the heart.
Figurative painting really is an adventure for me. Like many artists, I see in my head an image of what I want transferred onto canvas, but rarely is what appears on canvas entirely similar to the vision I had beforehand.
I really enjoyed working on this oil painting which was based on a recurrent dream. It's the type of thing which may seem like an old artists cliche, to paint your dreams but this one was just asking to be transferred to canvas and it almost seemed like a good way to deal with thte dream, which was not in any way unpleasant but just seeemed better suited to being painted than being in my head.
I wouldn't paint art that I didn't like but every so often there I paintings which I produce which i like to hang in my home for a while., This is one such painting. I love the meaning behind the artwork and I love the music which inspired me to create the painting, which is oil on board.
This painting is all about Burlesque with the figure hidden in various stylised feathers, fur an veils before appearing again in front of the audience.
This oil painting is much more stylised than much of my other work has been recently although I am finding that in this new exploration of painting in oil on board I am meandering between reality and sometimes cartoon-like styling.
Paintings of eyes could appear somewhat "creepy" or spooky depending on several things including general compositions, styling and of course the look in the eye. I din't want this to be a painting of that nature I really wanted to experiment with the whole "window to the soul" idea but once finished when the artwork was hanging in the studio it really did feel like someone was watching.
I am aware that "abstract" can be a misused term when it comes to describing original art, however, for the sake of classification on the web, "semi-abstract" seems as appropriate a term for this painting as any other.
Female figurative painting. I framed the drawing to see how it looked but then decided to work on it further, playing around with different broad brushes and different strokes.
Friedrich Nietzsche said "That which does not kill us makes us stronger" (amongst many other things!) and this painting is concerned with our inner strength and the fact that we grow through tough life eevnts emerging from the other end as stronger persons. This painting has been very interesting to create as it employed various methods of applying paint which were new to me.
This painting started life as a graphite sketch on board and went through several transformations. Figurative artwork in addition to the technical aspect is all about the atmosphere created for the viewer. Using the body shapes as well as colour and tone set the mood of this artwork. The painting is framed in a quality hardwood, hand finished black frame with gold slip.
Female oil painting in a much smaller scale than normal for a Joe Hendry original artwork. This canvas was all about subtle changes in tone whilst trying to capture the emotion of the model. Part of a series of female paintings, "Woman's Own" reflects the inner strength of women.
