Beatles and Kilties
- · Mood: Chilled
- · Music: Still Goldfrapp
A Huge thank you to everyone who turned up to the event at the City Inn, Glasgow last night. Although I really enjoy conversing with people via E-mail, I really love events like this because I get to meet people and have face-to-face chats.
The event saw the launch of my first limited edition print and the second release of Tom Murray’s Beatles photographs. Tom is quite a character and his Beatles stories were only topped by his tale about a trip to the cinema with Princess Margaret !
Above is a shot taken by the press showing, Joe Hendry, John Damari (John also now has prints available) and Tom Murray.

Cologne Cerrone Houdini
- · Mood: Arty
- · Music: Goldfrapp
Today was one of these great days in the studio when the music and the paint just seemed to work together somehow. I have been playing the new Goldfrapp CD Seventh Tree to death, especially the track Cologne Cerrone Houdini, which set the tone as I finished”Ladies Who Lunch”, my new art shown above.
Fantastic sound........if anyone has a clue what it’s all about then please let me know!

Here’s the finished piece.
Have a great Easter whatever you are up to.

Writers’ cramp....
- · Mood: Buoyant
- · Music: Nina Simone
I almost felt like a celebrity artist today as I sat in a gallery and signed the first batch of limited edition prints which had arrived fresh from the printers.
Several signatures later and it was more akin to writing a marathon essay in English class at big school!
I am very pleased with the prints which will be launched at next week’s City Inn exhibition. Full details in the Art News and Art Prints section.
Cheers

Here’s to homeopathy
- · Mood: Energetic!
- · Music: Still Goldfrapp
Last week I took a homeopathic remedy I had been prescribed. Nothing happened for a few days and then everything seems to have happened all at once.
Talk about bags of energy!
I have been painting at a feverish pitch in the studio and loving every minute of it.
This week I have completed some new male art in addition to another new Marilyn.....I seem to get withdrawal symptoms if too much time passes without “doing a Marilyn”.
I am uploading the new work in the current gallery.
I hope you like,
Best

Scary New Art
- · Mood: Digital
- · Music: Goldfrapp
There’s lot’s of exciting stuff happening on the art front....those of you who have been asking about Kilty prints, they are almost here !
I have also been working on lots of new computer painting this week and merging traditional art with computer painted art. All great fun and you don’t get paint all over the floor!
Have a great weekend wherever you are!
Cheers

The Boys Are Back In Town
- · Mood: Arty
- · Music: Goldfrapp
It’s been mainly female art that I have been working on over the past couple of months but I addressed the balance today when I completed this new piece of male art.
I hope you like him.
It was also one of those days when the whole atmosphere seems strange with the wind howling outside.
What’s the weather like down your way?
Cheers

New Digital Art
- · Mood: Digital
- · Music: Numan
For some time I have been receiving requests for prints and having had my fingers burned in the past by unscrupulous people, I have been quite wary.
I have unexpectedly come across someone who I think will be able to supply the quality that I need so watch this space!
I am also working on a range of “digital” art based on some of my canvas paintings.....see right

A Scotsman’s Best Friend
- · Mood: Arty
- · Music: Numan
Today I completed the final piece for the forthcoming event at the City Inn. All the details are in the News section.
It was odd painting the westie as I used to own a westie called Brando but I had to give him away ..... it’s a long story.
This one’s for you Brando and I hope you are doing just swell wherever you are!
Cheers

Bad Girl Revisited
- · Mood: Kinda cheeky
- · Music: Sarah Vaughan
Just to show that I have not forgotten my “pop art” roots, here’s a shot of a piece which I finished today based on the Bad Girl design which a created a couple of years back.
She is usually in beige and black but this piece was altered to mach a previous piece of Joe Hendry art. This painting is off to hang next to the other painting in San Francisco.
Tomorrow I am finishing off a painting of a Kilty and a Westie for the forthcoming exhibition at the City Inn which is in a completely different style.....I like to think of myself as versatile rather than slightly schizophrenic :-)
Cheers

Promoting Art Online
- · Mood: Industrious
- · Music: Numan
I completed some new Leg Art today. It was one of these “energetic” pieces to work on and I have the paint stains all over me and the studio to prove it.
I have been learning web promotion techniques this week from a fellow artist.
Apparently “content is king” and picture -rich sites don’ fare so well. So, we now have a free E-card section which I hope people enjoy using and also my first completely free to enter prize draw.
More blog soon.
Best,
Joe

Marilyn’s Back
- · Mood: Just Dandy
- · Music: Amy Winehouse
It’s a while since I painted Marilyn Monroe and when I received a new delivery of extra large canvas recently, I just couldn’t resist!
It was great to work in such large scale as recently I have tended to work on smaller canvasses.
What better way to spend a wet and windy Monday. I hope it’s not just so wild where you are...
Best,
Joe

Tree Art
- · Mood: Colourful
- · Music: Numan
If you follow my work then you will know that Clava Cairns is one of my favourite places. It’s just next to Culloden in Inverness.
I have been meaning to paint a trees cape from this special place since my last visit in May 2007.
This is the canvas about 50% there.....or maybe not. This is one of these ones that I might work on for a few minutes each day just to see where it takes me.
Regards
Joe

Sneak Preview
- · Mood: Very Chilled
- · Music: Morcheeba
Today was one of those really relaxed days when things just fly by.
A sneak preview of some more new art.
I am quite into purple oil paint at the moment for some reason.....nothing like it!
Cheers

The Lion & The Unicorn
- · Mood: Relaxed
- · Music: Radio 4!
Firstly, a huge thank you for all the E-mails following my visit to the hospital. It really did mean a lot.
I am never sure whether to post non art topics here but then I think...what the hell!
Today I was back working on a piece I have been working on now intermittently over the past while.
Glasgow gets its fair share of bad press and whilst some of it is undoubtedly warranted, Glasgow City Centre is a special place to me. It is a city with a big heart and a lot going for it.
I am trying to capture some of the “magic” of Glasgow in this piece.
More soon
Cheers

No Art Today...
- · Mood: Crikey!
- · Music: None
No painting today as I had to go to hospital for an endoscopy. Let’s just say it ranks up there with root canal treatment!
You are given the choice of sedation or no sedation. What I thought was bravery turned out to be stupidity on my part...if I ever have to do it again they can sedate me as much as they like.
The saving grace was that they took me before the guy in the next bed who was in for a colonoscopy......yikes!
More art soon...
Cheers

Slightly Saucy
- · Mood: Artistic !
- · Music: Via Con Dios
I don’t know if it’s that Valentines thing in the air but today I did more work on a new oil piece.
Suggestions for a title are welcome as I don’t think “Slightly Saucy” will cut it at any of the local galleries!
Cheers

Clydeside Bravery
- · Mood: Buoyant
- · Music: Radio 4!
Well my Clydeside meets Van Gogh calmed down a bit today. It is quite a textured piece and this probably explains how I managed to return home covered in paint. It’s a part of being an artist to get paint on you but I seem to have taken it to a new level today....
More soon,
Joe

More Glasgow Art
- · Mood: A Glaswegian kinda mood
- · Music: Franz Ferdinand
I reworked a painting of the Duke of Wellington today. He had been green....now he’s blue. Quite apt when I think of the Rangers/Celtic, Protestant/Catholic nonsense that goes on in Glasgow.
This reminds me of my days designing office interiors. When designing an office in Glasgow, customers were always concerned about their staff being happy and used to tell me “no blue or green”.
I usually tackled this by making colour schemes in Glasgow offices both blue AND green....
Cheers

Clydeside Bravery
- · Mood: Colourful
- · Music: Amy Winehouse
I was working on a few different paintings today and got that Friday feeling when I just had to grab a canvas and go for it!
The piece above is only just started and I can’t tell you how scary it is to attack a blank canvas with nothing more than a palette knife!
Where this one is going I just don’t know.....watch this space!
Cheers

Girl Next Door
- · Mood: Energetic!
- · Music: Blondie
Quite a lively day today. Have you noticed how when you listen to loud music in the car you drive faster? Well, I have a theory that this is the case for painting also... Blondie on at full pitch and there was no stopping me today!
Cheers

New Kilties
- · Mood: Relaxed
- · Music: Delibes
In the studio today I was listening to some really chilled music and working on some new Kilties.
February is a funny month sometimes I think. Everything feels that dormant way. The art I am currently painting is keeping me interested enough though and stopping me from jumping on a plane for a quick week in the Canaries.
More new Kilties soon.
Cheers

Getting Carried Away
- · Mood: Peaceful
- · Music: Roisin Murphy
I have had one of those starts to the week when I get carried away and loose myself in oil painting. This piece of art has moved on a stage from the shot below but I think I have been far too over indulgent! It’s the therapeutic quality of oil paint....it’s easy to spend hours with it.
I promise to get on with it tomorrow!

Something Sketchy
- · Mood: Relaxed
- · Music: Bryan Ferry. Boys and Girls
There has been a lot happening this week and it’s been one of those weeks that seem to zip past before you know it.
I have lots of several things in the pipeline art -wise and so I took some time this week to sit and relax with a small sketch.
This is not something that I do all that often as most of my work is larger scale and involves paint.
This was one of the results....a hybrid between my leg-art and the kilt paintings?
Have a great weekend....
Joe
