ICONIC FEMALES
The term “icon” probably gets banded about too readily, however, there are some ladies both dead and alive whom I believe the term is relevant to.
ART SNOBS
When I first began to paint again other than just to pass time, I was very wary of painting art with an iconic subject. This was possibly because of a fear of the art snobs who scorn on anything related to popular culture. I overcame this quickly however and can see this kind of attitude today for what it really is. Feeling free to paint anything or anyone that I love, admire or respect.
DIANA IN ART
Following on from my inclusion in Roger Taylor’s MARILYN IN ART, I was delighted to have three paintings included in Mem Mehmet’s book DIANA IN ART. The three paintings are displayed here. Diana had an aura which I believe was not just created by the media: it really was there and it developed as she progressed through her life. What more would Princess Diana have achieved had she still been with us today.
AMAZING GRACE
When I first began some of these paintings, the “pop art” style wasn’t quite as prolific as it is now. From early on, I have tried to add something unique to my art. Feeling passionate about what I paint has been key. I saw Grace Jones perform live once and it truly was amazing. Similarly, I have been to see Blondie countless times and Debora Harry performing solo at the Glasgow Barrowlands was something else.
Then there’s Kylie. Sometimes harsh press which softened a bit after the cancer scare but listen to some of the more obscure album tracks if you are open minded enough.
I could go on, Rita Hayworth as Gilda is just breathtaking and just writing about all these iconic ladies makes me want to rush to a blank canvas.
More new Female Art soon.
