I fell in love with Glasgow as a child. Growing up in a new town just 9 miles away, visiting relatives or going shopping seemed like a huge adventure.
That was in the 1970’s and Glasgow has changed so much since then. We all know that the city has had more than it’s fair share of negative press: some of it deserved and much of it undeserved.
“I Belong To Glasgow”
Well, I don’t really, but I like to think I do! My parents are Eastenders who moved to East Kilbride new town in the 50’s. East Kilbride was a great place to grow up as it had lots of green, open spaces to play in back then.
It was only when I turned 17 and went to study Interior Design that I began to get to know the city. Four years of learning in the City made me fairly familiar with the city centre and when life events spun around, I moved here to live when I was 35.
Icons
I love to paint iconic city icons. There is som much character in this City. From the Finnieston Crane to the Barras market, Princess Square to my personal favourite, The Duke Of Wellington statue with his traffic cone hat. He sums up Glasgow people and Glasgow humour perfectly.
The “Dear Green Place” is also a fantastic City for the arts. With numerous Theatres, Museums and Galleries it is well worth a stop if you have never been here. All Glasgow Council run Museums and Galleries are free fro the public to visit, for which the Council should be congratulated
