Beer!

  • · Mood: Buoyant
  • · Music: Malcolm McLaren- Paris

Most of this week has been spent working on a new oil painting.

I am really working at developing my technique and thought it would be interesting to show beginning, middle and 90% complete shots of this work-in-progress.

Comments welcome!

Joe

Beer!

  • · Mood: Buoyant
  • · Music: Japan- Quet Life/Life In Tokyo

Back in the studio tomorrow as the Glasgow Fair fortnight ends so the artwork will be appearing again soon.

Things should busy up as Diana In Art is released soon and I also have a couple of exhibitions coming up soon.

I have been visiting the Gallery Of Modern Art in Glasgow quite a bit as I am working on some new art based on the building and it’s surroundings. Today was fantastic. There was a family event and they were allowing people to use chalk to draw and write all over the stairs and paved areas next to the fantastic corinthian columns outside.

It looked strange to see it looking like that but it is the GoMA - I think it was quite adventurous of Glasgow City Council.

Inside at the moment there is an exhibition of Warhol posters. Worth having a look if you are in the area.

Beer!

  • · Mood: Fairly chilled
  • · Music: None today

It’s been an odd week really. One of those weeks when I seem to be jumping around from one thing to another but I am managing to take it in my stride.

I am currently working on another male piece of art. It’s weird, at the start of 2007 all I seemed to paint was female art. Now it’s the guy’s turn. This is about 75% complete and I am using it ti work on my oil technique.

On the non art front, today was a really nice day. After an appointment in town (Glasgow) I caught up with some friends from Edinburgh . We caught a bite to eat at cafe Mao in the Merchant City in Glasgow. Very nice it was too.

A few beers later and time to head home and get things ready for tomorrow. I have some models visiting me tomorrow as I have some ideas for new pieces of art.

Watch this space!

Beaches and bridges

  • · Mood: Happy ;-)
  • · Music:  Still Malcolm McLaren

Today was a bit of a mad paint fest in the studio. I have quite a lot of art in progress at the moment but I am realising that this really is the way that I work best.

The bridge painting moved on another step today. I am not too sure exactly where this one is heading but I am enjoying working on it.

Also today, some work on another Marlene Dietrich painting for the Germans In Mind exhibition in Chicago later this year. She’s not quite got the look yet but don’t worry, watch this space, :-)

During breaks today I have been reading the book The Secret. I would be interested in the view of others on this one, so if you have read it and have an opinion....drop me a line!

Cheers

Joe

Beaches and bridges

  • · Mood: Happy ;-)
  • · Music: Malcolm McLaren

Today has been a great day. My Malcolm McLaren “Paris” CD arrived. It is amazing. I first heard it years ago and I have been meaning to buy it but only finally got round to it. Catherine Deneuve’s voice on it is just awesome. Anyway, it added a certain atmosphere to my studio today.

I started some new art today and also continued on the Glasgow City art that I am working on. It is still in the very early stages, but installment two is here for you to see. I have no idea if how it ends up will be the same as the image in my head.

Also today, I decided to go to the beach for a brief stroll with my daughter. It was not cold but quite moody looking, so time to get the camera out. Teenagers are rotten subjects for striking a pose on a beach....like anyone was looking. Anyway, we had some fun and nothing beats the sea air in your lungs!

Have a great weekend,

Joe

Empaths and other stuff

  • · Mood: Empathetic
  • · Music: none today so far!

Today was a non studio day, so just my ramblings and no images for you to look at today I’m afraid.

I had a discussion today with someone about a strange event at the weekend. When attending a get -together at a friends house, I was drawn to a girl who told me I was an “Empath”. I didn’t have a clue what this was as I am not particularly knowledgable about fortune -tellers and the like. Anyway, apparently Empaths are quite creative people, so I am quite happy to be one. If there are any other Empaths out there , please get in touch and enlighten me!

On the art front, it has been a great year so far with lots of things happening. Mem Mehmet’s book, Diana In Art is released at the end of the month, I have more exhibitions happening and earlier in the year, my exhibition at the Park Gallery went very well. The guys at Park have been fantastic to work with and I am thrilled to bits that they have included me on their new website in the Art Gallery, G to J section .......right here.

Bums and bridges

  • · Mood: Relaxed
  • · Music: Ultravox

I took Monday off after a lively weekend which culminated in watching the Princess Diana tribute concert with friends....and beer!

I started off the first day of July in the studio with some varied work. It was one of those days when I really got lots painted. Helped along by listening to an album I have not listened to in ages: Ultravox, Rage In Eden. Fantastic!

I am working on a male canvass. He is about 75% complete. Most of the time has been spent on the skin tone. This is an image which I painted before, but in acrylic. I am trying to develop my oil painting style and working on a piece I “know” allows me to compare.

Also today, I started a new cityscape. I have a thing about bridges and I have intended to paint this subject for quite a while. So, again, to let you see how it all starts, this is probably about 10% complete.
