More Marlene

  • · Mood: Kinda cool
  • · Music: Madonna

My Marlene art moved on a step this week. Oil is such a wonderful medium to work in and I am really enjoying the process of softening this one up. This art is being produced for the Germans In Mind exhibition in Chicago later this year.

I don’t know if I should leave the soft brown sections yet or paint the entire background black. Any suggestions welcomed!

More Glasgow

  • · Mood: Experimental
  • · Music: Madonna

I am quite enjoying working on Cityscapes and landscapes at the moment.

They may be standard art fare but I am really using these subjects to experiment with some art techniques which are new to me.

Today I worked on a new figurative piece and also on a new Glasgow piece. I have painted the Duke of Wellington a couple of times before but I am changing technique each time. For those of you who are wondering why he has a traffic cone on his head...it is part of Glasgow humour and tradition! This huge statue is rarely seen without his “hat” and has become a Glasgow Icon over recent years.

Findhorn and Magazines

  • · Mood: Still chilled
  • · Music: KT Tunstall

Today was a relaxing start to the working week as I worked on a new piece based on my May visit to the north of Scotland.

Findhorn Bay is another favourite haunt of mine and today I began a new piece of art based on a photograph which I took on my visit. I would say about 75% completed.

I was shown an article featuring yours truly at the weekend. The article is a half page piece and is in the June/July issue of Uptown Magazine.

Male and Female art

  • · Mood: Still chilled
  • · Music: Still Amy Winehouse

As the week draws to a close I am tie-ing things up as I have a non-painting day tomorrow.

Working on a smaller scale has been interesting this week. All of these canvasses are half the size I normally work on.

I have completed a new male canvas and a new female piece of art. I am thoroughly enjoying working in oil at the moment and trying some new techniques, which are evident on the River Clyde art and the other Glasgow piece. The new Glasgow Gallery of Modern Art canvas is much lighter than the piece I painted before which was very dark, having an almost black base colour.

I think I am addicted to Amy Winehouse! I can’t stop listening to Back To Black. I’ve been slow to catch on to her but I don’t know why I didn’t buy the CD months ago.....it’s right up my street and ideal for painting along to in the studio.

Madonna and Glasgow art.

  • · Mood: Buoyant
  • · Music: Amy Winehouse

I am jumping around at the moment from one canvas to another. The downside is that nothing seems to get finished for an age! The upside though is that the saying “variety is the spice of life” seems to ring true and it definately ups my energy levels.

At the moment I am working on two pieces of Glasgow Art. One acrylic and one oil painting.

I have also reworked a previous Madonna painting and I am much happier with it now.

Also, I am working on my oil painting technique and I have repainted an image which I first painted last year called “Recline”.

Some of these partially completed pieces of art are shown here....you can let me know what you think!

I will upload the individual art works when they are completed.

Cheers

Joe

Spot the difference

  • · Mood: ;-)
  • · Music: Kate Bush

This has been a week where I have been running about like a mad thing and painting in between.

Taking my daughter to the orthodontist is always fun (well you will know what teenagers are like!). The braces are incredible these days: almost invisible. Now back in my day.....

Anyway, on the painting side I have several pieces on the go at the moment. As promised earlier in the week, this is the completed art of the Tollbooth Steeple at Glasgow Cross.

I am off to start to enjoy my weekend now, I hope you enjoy yours.

Clava Cairns, Inverness

  • · Mood: Calm
  • · Music: Roxy Music

Well...can you spot the difference?

I am really enjoying painting landscapes again. I think it’s the thought of painting some fantastic places during the summer months and soaking up new ideas for new art.

Today has been a calm day and I also got an E-mail from the organisers of the forthcoming art exhibition for Breast Cancer.

The link, advertising the event at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery is here.

Also today the Park Gallery sent me some images of art which they have had framed. I am always amazed at how different my art looks once it has a frame on it.

Clava Cairns, Inverness

  • · Mood: Cheery!
  • · Music: Goldfrapp

More painting from my recent visit to Inverness. Today, I was working on another Clava Cairns scene.

I am using a very bright palette at the moment which I think is coming from my buoyant mood!

This painting is half completed but I often get asked to show art in progress, which I am happy to do.

Also, today I confirmed that I will be taking part in a fund raising art exhibition at Glasgow’s fantastic Kelvingrove Art Gallery later in the year. Full details in my news section.

Clava Cairns

  • · Mood: Chilled
  • · Music: Morcheeba

Today I finished off a new male study and worked on some other bits and pieces.

Some of you may have seen my photographs from my visit to the Scottish Highlands in last months blog. Well, today, the first piece of art from the trip was finalised on canvas.

Clava is an almost magical place and I hope that I managed to capture my feelings for it in paint.

I hope you like it!
