Poseur

  • · Mood: Pretty cheerful !
  • · Music: Still Grace Jones

I am really playing about with scale at the moment. After working in a smaller scale than usual on the “wee kilties”, I have now just completed my largest piece of art at 1 meter x 1 meter.

This piece, is a subject which I have painted before of the Duke Of Wellington wearing his traffic cone hat outside the Gallery of Modern Art in Glasgow. It is based on a photograph which I took lying on the ground: hence the perspective.

I don’t normally paint on a Saturday but with Open Studios only a week away now I thought I would spend a few hours painting.

This piece will be on display at the event on the 6th and 7th Oct.

Poseur

  • · Mood: Contemplative
  • · Music: Grace Jones

This lets you see how messy things can get!

I am working on a new piece which is a study of a ballerina. The whole thing is quite “explosive”.

I can see in my head where I think it’s going but if you have seen any of my previous before and after art shots, you will know it could go anywhere from here.

I am reading an incredible book at the moment which I think is also affecting the way that I paint: A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle. Good stuff!

Wee Kilties

  • · Mood: Cheery!
  • · Music: Emiliana Torrini

The “Three Wee Kilty” canvasses are almost complete. It was great to work on something of totally different scale to the way I have been working. (Each canvas is less than 12 inches high)

I will be sending a mail shot out to everyone subscribed to this website but for any unsubscribed browsers, please E-mail me if you would like an invitation posted to you for the Wasps Open Studios event. The invitation is not necessary to access the event but I know that some of you prefer a hard copy.

Cheers

Poseur

  • · Mood: Chilled
  • · Music: Japan

It seems to be a month for posing in front of my easel!

A press release has been produced for the WASPS open studios event in a couple of weeks and some of us were photographed in our studios.

I have cleared the decks to try and get some special pieces completed in time.

Sneak previews soon!

Cheers

Joe

Wild Glasgow

  • · Mood: Energetic
  • · Music: Japan

I was full of beans as they say today.

One of those days when it’s time to let the paint fly and let your feelings just spill out all over the canvas!!

I might leave the painting on the right as complete. The one on the left , I have more to add (I think) but it is quite special to me already.

It is entitled “Pillar Of Strength”

Best,

Joe

Wee Man Syndrome

  • · Mood: Upbeat!
  • · Music: Madonna - Confessions

The kilt art continues!

With the approach of Open Studios and the prospect of many visitors coming to my studio, I hate the thought of my work being out of reach price wise. So....I am creating a series of mini canvasses. This Kilty is about half way through. More to follow.

Also, today was a sad day as one of my favourite brushes reached the end of it’s life! I was working it beyond it’s natural life but it really was time to let it go. Just the same as your favourite pair of comfy shoes expiring I suppose!

More blog soon, regards

Joe

More Kilts

  • · Mood: Busy (is that a mood?)
  • · Music: Madonna - Confessions

Well, the “Kilt Twins” are completed. These are now available exclusively from Park Gallery in Glasgow.

I have been asked several times recently if I still produce some of my older style pieces. The answer is “yes”! Just in case you need proof, below is a very recent shot of Madonna on the easel and me posing in the studio.

More new art soon,

Cheers,

Joe

More Kilts

  • · Mood: Buoyant
  • · Music: Madonna - Confessions

Back in the studio and there is a positive Kilty art procession going on!

I am working on some new techniques: this is an oil which is about 75% complete.

The Open Studios event is in a few weeks and I am hoping to have a series of smaller kilties available for this. Time permitting.

Off out for a bite to eat in Glasgow and I might even have a beer!

Take care,

Joe

Men In Skirts

  • · Mood: Buoyant
  • · Music: Japan

What a quick week!

I receive lots of E-mails about work in progress, so I will continue to post such pieces now and again. Thanks to all of you who get in touch, I enjoy reading your mails.

I am currently half way through two new pieces of Kilt art. These show the skin tone “underlay” if you like. I hope to have them finished and gallery -bound next week.

I have been listening to Japan and David Sylvian all week. He is playing a gig in Glasgow tomorrow and I am disappointed that I can’t make it. Still, I managed to see Erasure last weekend at the Carling Academy in Glasgow. They were fantastic as always and it really is a great venue - like a smaller Glasgow Apollo for those of you old enough to remember :-)

Absence....

  • · Mood: Buoyant
  • · Music: Erasure

Apologies for the less frequent updates but there has been so much happening.

August was a really busy month. In addition to supplying work to Park Gallery and Gallery 23 in Glasgow, the Diana In Art book was released. In addition to this I completed several pieces for the Breast Cancer charity exhibition at Kelvingrove Art Gallery. This was a huge success and I would like to thank everyone at Booby Birds: it was a delight to be included.

August also saw finalisation of my artwork for the Germans In Mind exhibition in Chicago next month as well as the WASPS Open Studios event, also in October.

In amongst all this I managed a few commissions including one of the most peaceful views I have ever painted in Skye. It made want to go back and visit.

More updates soon

Regards

Joe
