Landscape painting are, obviously, very different from painting figurative art. For this artist, it’s very relaxing. Whilst I love figurative painting, it presents very different challenges, whereas landscape painting is free from some of the disciplines of figurative work. It is more about bringing atmosphere to a painted environment.
You may notice that I also seem to have a “thing” about trees. This is not just about how good they look but about how long they live and the way they can thrive in just a small plot of earth. 2009 seemed to be the year for tree art paintings but this is a subject which I am sure I will return to again. Whether an original oil paintings or an acrylic artwork, the Landscape gallery is growing with a breadth of new original art.

"Grasslands" was a landscape painting which took quite a while to paint as it developed and changed in various ways whilst I was working on it. Initially, the foreground was not made up of so many strokes. I had used brushstrokes like thi son an acrylic landscape painting before but I had not painted like this in oil.
Landscape paintings are almost used by me as a means of relaxation. "In A Certain Light" was almost a happy accident.
Developing the ideas of previous landscape paintings which I have produced, I really want to increase the atmosphere of landscape paintings rather than have them simply be records of a scene, which is perhaps the way my landscape paintings began.
