Kate Bush Art
Kate Bush art. Kate and the word art go hand in hand for me.
Since I first heard Kate Bush as an 11 year old, I was mesmerised and she has provided the soundtrack to much of my life, along with a selection of other artists.
Fan art is a strange term. I like to create my own interpretations of a famous face and that can happen as the drawing or painting develops as opposed to a deliberate, conscious process.
At the time of writing, this artwork was a reparatory piece for a larger, more detailed Kate Bush fan art in progress.
This artwork is created in various media on a sanded wooden board. It is sealed and protected with a robust protective coating.
Medium: Lightfast pencil on board
Dimensions: 8 x 8 inches

Art In Progress
The following image shows the start of the drawing when I had just got those beautiful Kate Bush eyes and lips in position.
This next image id of the artwork part way through. I know that some people may prefer this to the final image at the top. Like most artists however, I can overcook things. Being a bit of a perfectionist I just have to get my artwork the way that I want it. Not the way that other people want it. When I look back at this however, it does give me some ideas for future paintings and drawings.
The above artwork available soon. Please email to register interest.
New Kate Bush Art In Progress
I’ve been drawing the above piece. This is a merger of Fan Art and illustration. Two of my favourite things. It has almost been therapy for me to draw this image of Kate. I do things much more slowly these days with things that took days now taking me months sometimes. Still, isnt it the journey and not the destination that matters? r so they say.
At the moment I am not entirely satisfied with the way this looks. It’s a bit like “Kate Bush Visits her local aquarium”. However, by the time it is finished I hope it is a reflection of all those wonderful 9th Wave type songs. Only Kate can make drowning sound like a wonderful experience.
Please check back to see this artwork when it’s completed….I can’t say when!

Mixed Media Kate
This is another new painting of Kate Bush. It is quite unusual for me in the mixed media it uses. This painting was created in coloured pencil, ink, aquarelle pencil, graphite, acrylic paint and watercolour. It measures A4 and I thoroughly enjoyed the loose process of creating it.
The following photographs show the artwork progressing from the initial sketch to the final piece.

Previous Kate Bush Paintings & Drawings
Kate Bush Artwork in pencil. At the time of working on this piece, I had been creating new figurative artwork in pencil and wanted to push myself a bit more. Every week whilst I am working in the studio, there is always at least one point where I listen to Kate Bush and the image of Kate from the Babooshka video sprang into my mind and the idea to create this Kate Bush art was born.
The Babooshka video is possibly Kate Bush at her most commercial. I utterly adore the video (and most of Kate’s work). I love that Kate’s music has matured with her but it is still lovely to look back. She is the most creative of musicians and it was fantastic last year to get my hands on the 50 Words For Snow album when it was released. If you have not heard it, I would highly recommend it. Guesting are Stephen Fry, whose voice is perfectly suited to the title track and Elton John makes an appearance on the best thing he has done in years! And only Kate could make a song about having sexual relations with a snowman sound completely moving.
With the idea in my head and Kate playing in the background, I set out to create monochrome Artwork which would be visually arresting and a tribute to one of my favourite artists.
Although created in pencil, this art has more work in it than most paintings which I produce and I feel that it may open doors to other new graphite based artworks for me. It has been a real treat to myself to create this piece and I could get lost in it for a very long time, not quite knowing when to stop and perhaps not quite wanting to stop.
This is the third piece of Kate Bush art which I have produced.
Charcoal and pencil on A2 size paper.

Kate Bush Oil Painting
Kate Bush paintings are, for me similar to painting Debbie Harry. Iconic painting subjects at their best. Whilst painting this artwork, I completely lost myself in the creation of it.
Kate Bush is an artist not fully appreciated by many. I find it frustrating when “Wuthering Heights” is the first thing people refer to when discussing Kate. She has had such a breadth of work, some of it completely outstanding, moving and demonstrating what a talented songwriter she is.
In paying homage to Kate in this original artwork, I wanted it to be simple but soulful. The depth in the eyes was a must and the lips, well, they just had to be “Kate”.
This painting comes in the midst of a series of new oil paintings which I will probably struggle to describe. I don’t want to use the term “slick”, but hopefully polished. I was becoming somewhat obsessive in it’s execution and trying to make it as perfect as flawless as possible, refining the features with multiple layers of delicately applied oil paint.
Kate Bush Paintings – Kate’s Influence
During this process, I was listening to “An Architect’s Dream” from the Aerial album (featuring Rolf Harris no less), when I noticed the part where Kate sings about the painter making it being a mistake and yet, it’s her favourite piece. I realised that the portrait was completed. It was time to stop chasing after perfection.
Celebrity paintings are something I will, I believe always paint as I get so much pleasure from creating them. Kate Bush has such a place in my heart that this, I am sure will not be the last time I will choose to paint her.

Female Oil Paintings
Female oil paintings are always very involving and exciting to work on. This is the first in a new series of paintings which I have been working on for a while. This series has been based on some sketches which I have produced (please see the art blog) and also some other ideas.
Initially, this was intended to be a celebrity painting but I altered the features somewhat. When I am working on female oil paintings, it seems that I work in batches, working on several female paintings simultaneously.
A Series Of Paintings
The theme of this series is concerned with women and war iconography. I have been listening to Kate Bush’s work, including Lionheart and Army Dreamers and it has heavily influenced not only what I have been painting, but the way in which I paint.
Oh! England, my Lionheart,
I’m in your garden, fading fast in your arms.
The soldiers soften, the war is over.
The air raid shelters are blooming clover.
Flapping umbrellas fill the lanes–
My London Bridge in rain again.
Oh! England, my Lionheart!
Peter Pan steals the kids in Kensington Park.
You read me Shakespeare on the rolling Thames–
That old river poet that never, ever ends.
Our thumping hearts hold the ravens in,
And keep the tower from tumbling.
Oh! England, my Lionheart!
Dropped from my black Spitfire to my funeral barge.
Give me one kiss in apple-blossom.
Give me one wish, and I’d be wassailing
In the orchard, my English rose,
Or with my shepherd, who’ll bring me home.
Many people are proud of their heritage and I am no different but when I listen to Kate Bush singing “Lionheart” it almost makes me want to be English!
“Lionheart” is framed in a hand painted quality hardwood frame with gold slip.
Medium Oil on board.
Dimensions: approx, 19 x 25 inches.
